DUSSELDORF, GERMANY — Solvay Specialty Polymers has purchased a stake in advanced composites maker Aonix Advanced Materials Corp. for an undisclosed price.
Solvay SP — based in Alpharetta, Ga. — will team with Ottawa, Ontario-based Aonix to develop and commercialize mass-produced thermoplastic composites made from Solvay's high-performance polymers for mobile electronics, automotive and other markets, officials said in an Oct. 21 news release issued at K 2013.
Officials added that the investment "demonstrates Solvay's strong commitment to the composites market. "This unique collaboration will bring together two world-class companies focused on meeting the growing global demand for lightweight, stiff, strong and recyclable composite materials," Solvay SP aerospace/composites business development manager Armin Klesing said in the release.
Aonix President and CEO Jerome Le Corvec added that the combination "creates a strong team capable of opening up new doors in the advanced thermoplastic composites arena."
Aonix offers its thermoplastic formulations in composite materials under the UltraMaterials trade name. The firm also performs all formulation, prepreg, prototyping and validation for its customers. Its turnkey solution includes purpose-built automated manufacturing systems.
Solvay SP is a unit of global chemicals maker Solvay Group of Brussels. Their materials include KetaSpire-brand polyetheretherketone (PEEK), AvaSpire-brand polyaryletherketone (PAEK) and Torlon-brand a polyamide-imide (PAI). |
